Big Bear eagles – live updates
Big Bear’s beloved bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, have welcomed eaglets into the world! You can watch live as the proud parents keep a close eye on their babies.

Fluff balls of adorability!
…and all 3 are eating, growing and thriving!
Yesterday Jackie and Shadow fed the chicks 12 times!—a fairly normal number for bald eagle chicks.
The mid-morning feeding started with a healthy poop-shot, kindly aimed away. While Jackie gathered bits of food, the 3 little bobble heads tumbled around each other getting ready…and all ended up facing away from Jackie. Their sharp eagle eyesight is obviously still in a state of development.
They did get turned around eventually and all got fed, sometimes pieces a bit too big for their tiny mouths. While the big one laid down on the job, the 2nd one didn’t seem to mind the little one being in front taking most of the food. By the time Jackie finished feeding, they were all too full to stand up.
Jackie’s night protection is awesome. In the wee hours, Fiona (the tiny San Bernardino Flying Squirrel with a nest below the big nest) showed up to earn one of Jackie’s trusty wingslaps. Those wingslaps assure that the chicks and nest are covered while telling any intruder it had better run fast—Gutsy little Fiona often backtalks to Jackie to tell her what she thinks of her wingslaps.
After a good night’s sleep, the chicks were feistier this morning, with lots of sibling bonking among them. But that behavior slowed down after the food arrived and by the end everyone was fed and peaceful. With plenty of food and care from Jackie and Shadow, which they are all getting, that calming will ease the bonking.
As Jackie completed her feeding task, she announced the update to Shadow. And he chortled back his approval. Shadow has been avidly helping to feed, bring food, protect the nest and support Jackie in any way she allows.
